Annual Maintenance Of Fire Extinguishers

The law demands that all fire Extinguishers should be inspected at regular intervals, not more than 12 months apart. Fire Safety Express can take care of this for you.

We will carry out annual inspections and maintenance to comply with the provisions of NSAI standard I.S. 291:2002, The Fire Services Acts 1981 & 2003 and the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007.  Some insurance companies also insist that this is carried out as a requirement of your Fire Coverage Policy.  I.S. 291:2002 applies.

You also need to be certain that your equipment will work in the case of a fire.  I.S. 291:2002 requires that:

  1. Dry Powder and Carbon Dioxide extinguishers must be test-discharged every 5 years, with 20% being test-discharged per year such that all have been test-discharged within the 5-year period.
  2. Water and Foam extinguishers must be test-discharged every 3 years, with 33% being test-discharged per year such that all have been test-discharged within the 3-year period.
  3. Carbon dioxide extinguishers must be pressure tested after the first 10 years of manufacture and every 5 years thereafter.

Our maintenance service covers complete inspection, maintenance and refilling services for all makes and types of fire extinguishers, including pressure testing and supply and fitting of spare parts. We also maintain fire hose reels, hydrants, and dry/wet risers.

We will provide your company with a Maintenance Log Book which includes inventory, location, type, size, quantity, work undertaken and schedule of work due, etc., and a routine for monthly inspection by the user.

Once we have completed all essential maintenance then we will issue your company with a Certificate of Inspection which should be kept on file.

Our Annual Maintenance Service provides you with the following:

  1. Our promise that we will not carry out any unbudgeted work unless you approve.
  2. We will give a practical demonstration to employees at time of annual inspection in the correct use of fire extinguishers.  This will include a full information pack about the fire classification and colour-coding systems and will guarantee that they can identify the class of fire involved and select the correct type of fire extinguisher without delay when required.
  3. Helpful advice and support along with a totally professional and efficient service for the whole year.
  4. A full update of your records, fire equipment log, inventory, and location plan.
